All students,

Director,

COVID-19 Countermeasures Headquarters

Request for Cooperation to Prevent the Infectious Spread of the Novel Coronavirus

Shimane University has been disseminating information on how to take necessary action to prevent the spread of COVID-19 since March of this year. However, in light of the news related to other university students who were directly connected to a chain of infections which caused a large delay in the start of classes, we once again request your cooperation concerning the following.

(Health monitoring and avoid places where outbreaks tend to occur)
Make sure to keep yourself in good health and refrain from going to places where outbreaks tend to occur: 1. Closed spaces with poor ventilation, 2. Crowded places with many people nearby, and 3. Close-contact setting such as close-range conversations.

Also, refrain from visiting crowded places with poor ventilation, such as fitness centers, live music clubs, karaoke bars and restaurants. This is because particularly in metropolitan areas, the number of cases with no clear route of transmission and cases among younger generations are increasing.

If any of the following applies to you, immediately contact the International Exchange Division either by phone (0852-32-6106) or email (ied-ryugaku@office.shimane-u.ac.jp), and refrain from coming to university, avoid contact with others, and stay home.

  • You have had close contact with people diagnosed with the infectious disease or those suspected of having contracted the virus.
  • You have a fever and/or respiratory symptoms such as a cough, strong drowsiness and/or smell and taste problems.

In the case you are diagnosed with the COVID-19, also contact the Health Service Center of your campus either by phone or email.

Furthermore, to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, make sure to maintain good health habits such as getting adequate sleep and nutrition. Also follow coughing etiquette and be diligent with hand washing. We appreciate your cooperation in following these guidelines.

(Avoid overseas travels)

Japan’s Prime Minister made an official request to avoid non-essential overseas travel at a press conference held on March 28. The Overseas Safety website (MOFA) advises either to “Cancel Unnecessary, Non-urgent Travel” or “Cancel All Travel” to all countries/regions. Therefore, all students are asked to cancel or postpone their overseas travels, including private trips. If you unavoidably need to travel overseas, be sure to contact the International Exchange Division either by phone (0852-32-6106) or email (ied-ryugaku@office.shimane-u.ac.jp)before traveling.

  • MOFA has designated 49 countries/regions as Infected Disease Risk Level 3 regions, meaning “Cancel All Travel”, while all countries/regions except for Level 3 regions designated as Infected Disease Risk Level 2 regions, meaning “Cancel Unnecessary, Non-urgent Travel”.

  • MOFA has also designated all countries/regions as Travel Advice and Warning Level 2, meaning “Cancel Unnecessary, Non-urgent Travel”.

Your efforts are highly appreciated to act accordingly and carefully based on the correct and latest information on the websites of relevant ministries and agencies.

The Overseas Safety website (MOFA) is available in Japanese only. If you would like to know the infectious disease risk level of your location of departure and/or destination, please check with your supervisor, office staff in your department or the International Exchange Division.
